When someone dies, it is often necessary to get a Grant of Probate to allow the executors named in the will to collect in the deceased person\u2019s assets, sell property and distribute the estate to the beneficiaries.
\nCurrently the fee charged to apply to the Probate Registry for a Grant is \u00a3215 unless a solicitor is acting in which case the fee is \u00a3155.
\nFrom May 2017, despite many objections having been made to the government, most estates will face larger bills.
\nOnly those estates under \u00a350,000 will benefit. In this case the fee is reduced to zero, but for those over that amount there is a new sliding scale of fees as set out below:
\n\u2022 Estates valued at \u00a350,000-\u00a3300,000 – \u00a3300 probate fee
\n\u2022 Estates valued at \u00a3300,000-\u00a3500,000 – \u00a31,000 probate fee
\n\u2022 Estates valued at \u00a3500,000-\u00a31m – \u00a34,000 probate fee
\n\u2022 Estates valued at \u00a31m-\u00a31.6m – \u00a38,000 probate fee
\n\u2022 Estates valued at \u00a31.6m-\u00a32m – \u00a312,000 probate fee
\n\u2022 Estates valued at more than \u00a32m – \u00a320,000 probate fee
